Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ'S

01. Can my potential co-founders join the school as well?

Yes. Up to 1 additional co-founder can join the sessions in Kasulu. However, we can cover boarding and basic meals for one person only.

03. I have already found a business. Can I still join?

It depends on your stage. We work on starting a business and not on improving a business. If you have started and some customers already and you want to continue with your business model, there are better programs out for you. If you have just started (e.g. with a prototype) but are still unsure about your business model and market strategy, please apply. If you are unsure, just contact us for clarification.

05. Is my idea innovative enough?

This is what we will decide after you have handed in your application. Different aspects can be innovative, e.g. the product itself, the financing model, the sourcing model, the distribution model, the place where the business takes place. Important is to show that there is some competitive advantage in your idea. The minimum requirement is that you have found a market gap or niche that you want to exploit.

07. Is there any fee?

Yes, and no.

You don ‘t have to pay any fee for the program right away. Even food and boarding are covered for the three months’ course. After 60 days of the program, you can decide if you are interested in raising money or not. If you get an investment, you will be charged USD 1,500 for the program. If you decide not to raise investment, you can continue with the program when agreeing to pay USD 1,500 if you reach mutually agreed-on KPIs at a later time.

09. How does the advisory service work?

Yes, and no.

After business school, you continue to get two years of support in areas of weather forecasting, soil analysis, free accounting system usage, connections to potential customers in Zambia, DRC, India, and Germany as well as fundraising support. We believe that this will help you to get your startup off the ground. The advisory service costs you 3 % of shares. So in a successful case, you will get the free course, 10,000 USD investment and 2 years further support by keeping 87% of your company shares.

11. Who is running the school?

The project is a joint program of different NGOs, the Anglican church, the German Development Aid as well as local and international entrepreneurs that give insights in their way on starting and growing a company.

02. Can I apply though I am not sure if my idea will work?

Yes. We are looking mainly for bright founders and we will use different tools to help to sharpen your idea. More important is your commitment to giving your very best to make the best out of the program.

04. I am not sure if my business idea falls within the agricultural or food sector.

We support startups in the broad area of the agricultural and food sector. This includes farming, input companies, processing or other value addition, distribution, tech development in that area, or any other idea that has a focus on that sector. If you are unsure, please contact us.

06. Can my idea be stolen? How is it protected?

We keep all your data safe and secure. We only use your information to choose the most potential founders. Due to our good reputation and partners, it is assured that your idea is kept private. Even more, we focus on applicants ‘motivation and commitment than solely on the idea. Successful businesses are rather built by great founders than great ideas.

08. Will I get an investment?

That mainly depends on your idea, commitment, and active participation during the program. The program is backed by investors who are willing to invest 10,000 USD per startup for 10 % of your company shares as well as paying the program fees for you. However, the supported startups will be chosen by them. Startups then get the chance to show the proof of concept on free provision of agricultural land and subsidized rental of storage area and other equipment.

10. What are other benefits of the program?

We organize showcase events that help you to get more attention to your business idea and further support. We connect with local and international NGOs that can provide technical support to you. Furthermore, we have contacts with agricultural banks and will advise you on financing opportunities after a successful PoC that will help you grow by debt capital as well.

12. Is this a Christian-related program?

No. This program is open for all people regardless of their religion, personal beliefs, ethnicity, or gender. We especially encourage women and youth (at least 18 years old) to apply.
